I did. I loved reading about your grandmother and that way of life which seems so different to how it is for many now in the same places and situated.
The mention of the afternoon coffee and cake resonated with me too as it reminded me a lot of time I used to regularly spend in Germany where it still seems to be a regular thing.
It is definitely an era that no longer exists. I feel fortunate that I was able to be a part of it. And yes, the coffee and cake thing is still happening in Germany. At least in my family. I don’t know about younger people though. But many still savor meal times and slow down for them, much more so than here in the US.
Reminds me of a recent interview I did with my mom, re my great aunt and namesake, Jesse. We giggled about how my mom, a tomboy, only dresses feminine when she cooks these days - when she wears my namesakes aprons.
I love aprons. They represent all the labor and love of generations of women. I think I even have a collection started on Pinterest that I had forgotten about.
I found this fascinating, actually. And I love how clearly it is told, so immersive. These memories must be treasured, little doubt, and oh gosh the atmosphere! How things were, how they are now perceived. More importantly, how fondly you remember them, and with discerning curiosity.
That was beautiful to read. Thank you for sharing those words about your grandmother.
You actually read it? Thank you so much for your sweet words.

I loved this piece, and love your dedication 😘
That’s so cool to interview family members ❤️

I love that. I’d love to see it. I used to collect little aprons from vintage shops. But not the apron dress kind.
My mother and grandmothers used to wear the kind that slips over the head and has a front and back but not sides. Not a full apron dress.
I remember those too! now I really want to look at aprons on Pinterest 😍
I had only gotten started with this when I stopped using Pinterest. https://www.pinterest.com/luanneswords/aprons-antique-vintage-and-fun/
Oh, what a beautiful collection. I’ve looked at a few, and I would love to add one to my post and credit you. I’m gonna admire the rest now. 💋💋
This is lovely.
And now I'm missing my grandma, too.
Grandmas are special creatures
Hear, hear! To Oma x
